With its emphasis on ease-of-use in short-term seating conditions, the ALT3 Basic Task Chair also approaches support and design from a unique position. Like the Standard and Premium ALT3 Task Chairs, its back relies on the frame's curves and resulting "mesh pocket" to provide constant contact and lumbar support. The depth and height adjustments required by the task chair's additional lumbar support system, however, make that option impractical for the Basic Chair.

The ALT3 Standard Task Chair approaches both lumbar support and design from a slightly different perspective. It too maintains constant contact with the thoracic and lumbar regions of the spine in a reclined position, but relies upon a different technology to do so. The upholstered material itself provides flexibility, while the reinforced frame supplies the rigidity required for real support. Adjustable arms pivot and can be adjusted in height and forward/back.

The ALT3 Premium Task Chair maintains all features of the Standard model and adds a headrest and mesh back to provide additional support for the cervical vertebrae. It adjusts forward and back for a custom fit. In addition to the headrest, the Premium model has a polished aluminum five-star base, allowing this chair to contribute to the design palette instead of merely standing out of its way.
